I currently have a SPS (South Pacific Sun) 250w 14k MH bulb over my 36g with 4 24" UVL VHO actinics. I am using a Icecap 250w E-Ballast.

I am getting ready to replace the MH bulb, and am considering the 10k or 12k Reeflux.

After a lot of reading on RC, it seems that the 12k "isn't very bright" and the 10k "looks pink or yellow"???

It seems like ReefSpecialty has a lot of experience with Reeflux bulbs, would you say either of the above statements are true?

What bulb would you suggest being that I already have PLENTY of blue supplementation from my VHO's?

Thanks

I haven't ever seen the Reeflux 10k look pink or yellow when running on the recommended ballast (CoralVue). The Reeflux 10k should appear white. The Reeflux 12k is bright and only appears dim when burned by magnetic ballasts or cheap electric ballasts. To my knowledge the Icecap ballast is the closest ballast to the CoralVue and should get close to the same results. I am a big fan of the 12k Reeflux but I also don't run actinics. I feel you will be happier with the 12k if you are using a 14k bulb now.

I forgot to mention though that the Reeflux 10k will look brighter than the 12k will.

thanks for the reply! Would there be a differnce in growth and coloration between the two bulbs? I have mainly SPS in my tank....

I have never used the 10k Reeflux long term. I have used Reeflux 12ks with what I feel is outstanding results and my tank is mainly SPS. Theoretically you should get better growth with a lower kalvin bulb like the 10 but there might be proof that the bulbs with the bluer spectrum may benefit both growth and color.
