Hey there,

I bought myself a Canon XSI SLR last summer and I am only starting to play with it now(to much work no time), I am off work for the next 2 months wich will give me time to learn how to take pictures 101 :).

I am happy to have found this board, I have read lots of the post and also most of the info on "HOW TO" I will be posting a few of my pictures and hope to get some feedback if possible to what I m doing wrong. I am a total noob when it comes to pictures but my wife says I have a hidden talent!!!(thats what they are suppose to do...support your hobbies).

Thanks again for your honesty!

Here are pictures I took this evening; dont have a tripod yet.

A tripod will help tremndously with sharpness (hopefully you're sharpening in the software). Watch for reflection on the glass (1st image). Looks like you have a good handle on getting a proper exposure. Off to a good start. Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more :)

Yeah the brightness of the exposure looks spot on. I would try to tweak the exposure to pull more shutter speed out until you get a tripod though. It appears you used full automatic mode (the green box). Try out Av and Tv for some control of the exposure properties.

you're doing pretty good for being new to photography. and the XSi is also a very good camera to begin with. i recently got the rebel XSi, and find it so much easier to take pictures with. if you want better quality pictures, try using a tripod, and maybe your ISO

I spent a few hours playing around with the camera today, I use it in Manual mode and tried to take most of my pictures with ISO set @ 100, still dont have a tripod will go buy one this weekend at the same time I might buy this Lens EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM. Anyone tried this lens and have good or bad feedback about it?

Here are a few shots:

What is the name of that black and white fish? It looks like some kind of damsel.
