I need a heater for a new tank it's a 75gal with a 30gal sump. I am just not sure if I need like 2 200w or if I could go with 2 150w heaters.

5 watts per gallon = 525 watts of heaters.

Is this for the 29g you have or for the 75g you are planning?

I have a 75 gallon with 30 gallon sump, same as you. I have two 150W heaters and they keep up just fine.

Two by 150w will do the job, if you are raising from a temperature of ~70ยบ. I tend to go larger so I would use two by 250w to increase efficiency. This works in my head but I haven't ever run my "thought math" past someone for confirmation. (My thinking is that the 250w's run for less time, meaning less draw and better control.
