46 Gallon Bowfront brace, help!

I have a 46 gallon bowfron & yesterday when I was doing a water change I snapped it in half. It had a small crack(maybe like 1/4") when i bought the tank used but it had been holding up fine. So what I did to fix it was I attached a pice of 1/4" plastic(drilled holes & used plastic screws&nuts)to reinforce the brace. It seems to be working fine, will this solution be okay long term? I don't see why not as I basically just recreated what was already there but I wanted to get some opinions on this & see if anybody else has had the same issue & what they have done to fix it.

I have a 75 and accidently broke the center brace. Its been broken for about 7 months now and I haven't had any probs.

it is perfectly fine, I cut out the center bracing to my 46 to allow the maximum amount of light and it is still standing fine.
