I am a new member and still in the planning stages, but I am thinking of moving up from my 75g to something bigger, and meaner. So, Id like your input on which dimension would be better for a FOWLR tank? Preferebly under 300g, and not longer than 6-7' Long.
EDIT: I was looking at the 180g, seemed like a nice size, and I know of a few people that have them.
Thanks,
Stephen

Honestly the biggest widest tank you can get. Height isn't as important. If your staying under 300g then I would say don't go any higher then 24" go wider and longer. Once you get into the huge tanks, the 24" height starts to look awkward. I have a 210g 84x24x24, I'd like for it to be wider though.

180 is nice since it is 24" front to back, but if you can go 7' long better yet, if you can find a stock one. Someone said Oceanic still make a 7' 24 x 24 which is a 210. Check out their website as I think I saw it on there.

Personally I prefer longer the better but width no more than 30" and height no more than 26". Otherwise it's harder work with things in the tank.
I could live with something like 96" X 30" X 30".

Go with 72x30x30 unless you aren't very tall with short arms :) Then you should go 24" tall. 30" tall looks much more impressive from the outside to me. The fish won't care much either way but I really like my new tank.
I started a big thread about tanksize awhile back...I ended up deciding on getting the 96" x 30" x 30" because with that length it looks funny when it's only 24" tall.

I think tanks are just like closets and sheds. no matter how big your s is . It will be full and you're going to want ether a bigger one or another one. so go as big as you can afford .

I'd love an 8x3x2 but thats 360g, I had a 8x2x3 once, but sold it, didn't like the dimensions. My dream tank would be 96x48x30 that I plan on building out of plywood. I'd love to go 10' or so though.

like others said... go as long as you can!! Depending on what you want to keep in there a 6ft tank might be to small, also depends on your plans for the wood tank :)
I just ordered a 10ft tank just before x-mas. I want the length so the fish I buy can stay in there & I do not have to worry about them outgrosing the tank. A 6ft tank is just to small for many of the tangs/angels/triggers that I like. So go as long as you can.... if it's 7ft go for it.... but if you can squeeze another foot in length it would be worth it to do so now. Again depending on your plans/timeframe to build the wood tank :)
I wanted 120x36x30 but it would of taken up to much room.. other half said 120x30x30 is OK...
