I don't feed mine and it is fine. I do feed acans though, when they will take the food.

I feed mine, mostly just cyclopeeze however some will take PE mysis depending on what mode their in and how far the tenticles are extended.

I find the smaller ones actually can handle the big food, the trick is to be patient with them they can be slow eaters.

I feed my favia once a week with mysis. It extends tentacles at night and they readily grab food. They eat like little individual anemones.
Shine a flashlight in a couple hours after lights out and see if its tenticles are out.

so does that mean you feed all the indivdual heads separatly or do you just turkey baster the whole colony....it seems to just bounce off of mine.

At night the favias tissue comes out a great deal and food sticks right to em. I do not regularly feed mine.

turkey baste over whaever is extended. I find the whole colonies don't always extend. They are much more finicky then say an acan. However even the smaller pentagonas will devour pe mysis if you give them enough time.

Well last night I tried to feed my favia. It is a decent size prism favia.

The tissue was puffed great deal. When I blew the turkey baster I could see the flesh ripple.

I put a decent amount of homemade food on it, which stuck on really well. Today the colors on the coral are MUCH more bold.

I will definitely continue to feed this coral at least once a week.

Try late at night when the tank and room have been dark. It is hard to tell but the tissue puffs up and food will stick to it like crazy.

Mine are PIGS.

I have a 4-5 head colony - and at least 3 eat pellets. Amazing to watch - the pellets travel across the body to the mouth. They also extend during the day. My favorite coral - though ot be fair, I have only started.

My favia/favites/etc have never really extended during the day like acans. At night however, it's a completely different matter. Since I feed during the day, the answer you're looking for is: no, other than what they catch in the water column.

That is exactly how mine looks at night, only I have the prism type. It is crazy how the flesh ripples when you blow the turkey baster across it!

Some favias have really long feeding tentacles.. some a couple of inches.

Until this coral was totally comfortable in its location, it would send out sweepers that were in excess of 8" Now it just extends like in the photo, with the occasional 2" exploratory sweeper.
