I currently have the following fish in a 120 gallon FOWLR (soon to be moved to a 260, 84" x 24" x 30"):

3.5" Emperor Angel
3" Tomato Clown
2.5" Purple Pseudochromis (not being moved to a 260)
2" Rectangular Trigger

I plan on adding the following:

H. Tusk or another Wrasse
Another Trigger (bluethroat or pinktail or redtail trigger)
Miniatus Grouper
And maybe a puffer

The puffer is where my problem lies. I want a porcupine puffer, but believe it will get too big for my tank (both physically and bioload wise). Thus I have to resort to the dogface puffer that grows to approximately the size of most of my other fish. However, I am not a big fan of dogface puffers. So, I am considering getting a smaller puffer, like a valentini or spotted puffer (or maybe both??). I don't have much experience with the smaller puffers, so I would like to hear your opinions on whether any of them would be suitable for the above tank inhabitants. Considering they grow to about 5", would they be able to stand up for themselves (like my tomato clown does)? Would I be able to get 2?

Are there any other smaller fish that would be ok long term? My tank looks empty right now since the fish are small. I would like to add some small fish that won't be a huge bioload when they grow and that would make my tank look more busy.

I'm not sure if I would risk one of the Toby puffers. They are pretty passive and not really strong swimmers. He could face some aggression from the trigger because their body shapes are similar and they both eat a similar diet. The trigger may see it as competition and go after it and a toby is no match for a trigger. You will probably have problems from the purple psuedo no matter what fish you add. I have a Toby (C. Epilamprus) in with a Purple Psuedo and a Yellow tang but the puffer and psuedo were added together when they were both small so they get along but, recently my purple psuedo bullied a longnose hawkfish that was almost 2x the purple's size. The hawkfish died recently and I believe the psuedo was responsible. I would also rethink that grouper, it is going to eat anything that fits in his mouth.

Thanks Laura. Those were my thoughts also, but I just wanted to know what other people thought. The purple pseudo is very aggressive. It killed 2 of my damsels that were added before it. It is afraid of everyone else in the tank, but I am afraid any new fish that are not much larger will be in trouble.

I realize the grouper might be trouble for the smaller fish. I will probab;y only get the grouper if I decide against smaller fish. Otherwise I think triggers, large puffers, and large angels would be decent tankmates.
