when I fragged a few of my soft corals I had them out of them water maybe five minutes, and no harm whatsoever

In nature they can bake in the sun completely out of water every day at low tide for an hour or more.

I wouldn't advise doing the same with your own corals, but they are a lot hardier than most aquarists think.
When out of water, corals will secrete a mucus-like film to protect themselves from drying out too rapidly.

I have kept some corals out of water for a halfhour during fragging demos with no problems.
