So I just bought a one spot foxface and he's currently in QT. The problem is he seems extremely stressed out and keeps fighting with his reflection in the glass. He has been in his stress colors much more than his relaxed yellow. In the tank there is a plastic flower pot with a hole cut in it and a piece of PVC. He also seems to be eating. He doesn't seem to be showing any signs of disease (granted that doesn't mean much as It's only his second full day in QT-I got him on Saturday). Anyway I'm starting to worry about his stress level. Should I put him in the DT or just try and ride out the stress for a few days and see if it gets any better?

Thanks

I had a one spot before, and he remained in the state you speak of for a couple of weeks. Even in the display he would show stress colors every time you turned on lights, walked past the tank. It passes, just give him time. He will be a fun addition, after a while.

So just keep him in QT?

I would.

Foxfaces are very easily stressed fish. But they are also very resistent and disease proof. It'll take it a long time to get used to its new home and to you. How big is the QT and how big is the fish?

I purchased one about 5 weeks ago. It was stressed for the first two weeks. Anytime I walked by the tank, it would hide and change colors. Now, eating like crazy, swimming all over the tank, great colors too. Does not bother any of the other fish.

The QT is a 29 gallon and the foxface is about 4 inches long.

Thanks for all the input. I wasn't sure if this was normal behavior or not and was starting to get worried about him. I did notice that if I stay by the tank for an extended period of time he seems to relax a little bit. I guess he becomes convinced I won't eat him :). The stress behavior that worries me most is fighting with his reflection-he just goes nuts, darting back and forth across the tank and finally seems to just "collapse." He'll go full camo with spines all out and hide between the filter intake and the glass.
