I was wondering if anyone had access to a hypodermic needles to help me zap my Aiptasia with Kalk. I am not getting good results with the Joes Juice Syringe or other like products. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

I have tried that too. A few keep coming back for over a year now. Just wanted to know if it would be better to use a hypodermic needle. Where do I get one?

Any syringe. I use Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime with some RO/DI water and microwave it for a few seconds. Then I feed it to them.

i have used APTASIS X with great results . read the directions and folow to the T .its not the injecting of the matieral but the covering the whole mouth completly .if you dont they will release "babys" as a result to try to keep the colony alive .its thier was of winning the game.if you inject them and dont kill the "babys" by completly covering the mouth you will find that they will spread .you will kill the mother but make lots more babys . APTASIA X is much better than joes juice ,IMO it really sticks to the aptasia great . you must also turn of all flow for 15 minutes when doing it,and its best to get them before they get large numbers or they will really spread because they are like weeds and multiply fast in the right conditions . if you can get a copperband to live they are excellant also because they get the ones you cant get to .its atough battle ,dont bring a knife to a gun fight so hit the ones that are alive every night and dont let up ! good luck

I'm thinking about using one of these products. I bought a copperband and he only lasted a month. wouldn't take brine shrimp, pe mysis, OR eat any aptasia. it was depressing watching him just pick at nothing on the live rock and slowly die. 8(

I have used VERY hot water. Use syringe and directly blast the beast.

Worked well for me.

Bigsink,

You can get needles from CVS. They are only a couple of dollars.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the input. I will try CVS for a hypodermic needle.

I had a few of them in my tank and added a few peppermint shrimp and after a few months they were gone.......I haven't seen the shrimp either so not sure where they went.

Tried Peppermints. Mystery Wrasse and Flame Wrasse don't let them last too long.

Hey teach, lol

I have been using a syringe that someone gave me that uses it for their insulin and i have been using fresh squeeze lemon juice and so far I have zapped 4 polyps of aptasia and have not seen a sign of them for over a month now. It seems to be very cost effective and it works. Hope this helps.

john i have a syringe you could use but i never had much luck. i mostly got bored. I had at least 50 aiptasia in my tank, and within a week of adding my copperband they were all gone.

i agree , why mess around and waste your time with hot water or kalk ,lemon juice or some other obserd mixture when its $12 and works wonders . i would imagine that they won't read the directions and mess it up anyway . the stuff has worked awesome in my tanks and i will never use anything other than it ! it amazing how hard it is to help some people that have asked for it ! maybe the actually want to propigate aptasia lmao ........

Hey wrasseman - while I'm sure everyone appreciates your experience with the aiptasia X product, I think all members of our board will agree that comments like this are unwelcome here:

sorry didnt mean to ruffle any feathers and i do agree with you . some times its difficult to express your self in an appropriate manner and that is something that i will try and remember at all times on RC ,we are trying to work together and figure thease things out on a voluntary level . sorry for the discomfort that i may have caused you all .

I use vinegar.

Be careful with the kalk pastes, esp. with hot water.
Folks have been injured (eye injuries) with syringes essentially exploding when the calcium hydroxide reacts with the water. It can blow out the syringe with some serious force and pH12 slurry is flying around.
