Im dealing with the same issue right now. I just (last night) built a lamptree out of 1 1/2" PVC for a new pendant I just got and it actually works. But It doenst look the best IMO. (more like it didnt look the best in the wifey's opinion ;))

I have heard of people using "bendable conduit" and just painting it black. I think im gonna go hit up HomeDepot tonight and check it out.

I wil try to take some pics tonight of the PVC tree i made last night. (although im not going to use it..)

Sorry im 2 days late on this but I built a DIY light hanger built after the lamptree Zeroedge. I bought a 6 foot aluminum tube from home depot and had it cut at 2 45 deg angles. I had them welded with a special TIG welder for 20$ at a local shop. I then primes and pained the whole thing black with high heat grill paint. I am very happy with the way it turned out and I evan ran the wire from my MH through the tube. Here are some pics, click my red house for more pics of it over my tank.

Same question here. Sticking it into the ground isn't an option for me inside.

if your going to the depot another option that may give it a kinda industrial look if your into the would be to use 3/4" or 1" black iron pipe (the stuff they use for gas lines) you can buy a couple 90's and have them cut and thread it there for you...get home thread it all together, give a her a couple rounds of tremclad and run your wires through it...

you could even build a pedestal for it too using the pipe, if your fixture has loose wire then you can drill a 1/2" hole in it and run the wire through it that way...

my buddy is a gas fitter and that is how he mounted his 24" LCD in the kitchen...looked super sharp...

there is also mounting brackets they sell that the pipe will screw into, i believe it is generally used for industrial railings to be attached to concrete floors..but the thread on them is standard NPT so it all fits together...
