g2 skimmer ?

i will be getting a g2 in a few days and was wondering the water level that works the best for the skimmer. right now i have a super skimer 220 and the water level is low will this work for the g2 or do i need to have it deeper in water.

i will get a piece of glass cut at 8 inches right now my ss 220 water level is only 3 or 4 inches

got the glass cut at lowes
skimmer is in and working great
it was used so i really didn't have a break in time. in 24 hours almost an inch of skimmate dark and nasty stuff
