.I just checked my water par.... and my PH is reading 8.8 . How can I safely drop it down?

Sounds like an error in your test kit reading or something wrong with the pH meter, unless you have had a possible kalk overdose or have added to much alkalinity supplement.

What are you using to test your pH with. If you are using a pH meter, have you recently calibrated it using 7.01 & 11.01 calibrating solutions. If you have properly calibrated your meter and are confident it is working properly, try testing your pH by taking a sample out of your tank and place the probe in that container.

I agree. Unless you are adding limewater in large amounts, the chance that the pH is really 8.8 is virtually nonexistent. We've seen hundreds of such posts, and after working though them, they end up being testing error.
