Been a while since I have posted in the Aggressive area! LisaD messaged me the other day to say hi and I thought I would drop by and post a pic of the newest fish for my sps reef since its "kinda" aggressive...well ok, not at all but you guys will like him!

I shut down my aggressive tanks all together to focus on my sps tank. Its a 130 but soon to be a 200...I have a tank coming that measures 72"x30"x22" tall next week. Only reason I mention this is that I have a lot of fish in my current tank which is too small for them all!

New guy in acclimation:

In the tank. This guy did not even hide for a second...he went straight to exploring the tank! I have never had such a friendly new addition.

Here is a size comparison to the others...he is about the same size as most of my fish. My Hippo tang is the only bigger fish.

Just thought I would share some fish pics since I haven't been around in a while!

Looks great, perfect choice for that tank.

Good to see, it's a nice Aussie tusk for sure.

I was actually just wondering the other day what was going on with your tanks. So you completely closed down your aggressive FOWLR? That's too bad, you had some nice fish.

Yes for now...it was a hard choice but it started with the Grouper needing a big new home (found him a 300G) and then the Niger Trigger got aggressive (found him a 400G) and then my dogface got sick and passed away. I decided at that point to go peaceful and focus on my reef. Moved my 33G reef to the 130 where it is now.

BUT, now I am back to having soooo many fish. I just can't stop finding fish I want!

So I have the 200G on its way. I think its perfect dimensions for most fish, especially tangs.

6' long 2.5' wide and just under 2' tall.

That's a pretty guy for sure! I hope you have fun with your new direction :). You've got some beautiful fish and corals. The new tank sounds great.

That is a beautiful Tusk...I love my Indo Harlequin, but wish I had done the Aussie, the colors are just a little better.

I keep trying to decide on one last good-sized fish for my own mixed reef, and a beautiful aussie tusk like this would look great. I only worry about eating crabs, snails, shrimp, urchins, stars - all of which I also enjoy having in my tank. Justin, any invert munching out of this new guy?

Not at all. They are generally quite safe as far as I have seen/heard. He lives with (only two days now though) 6 shrimp, many crabs, a conch, snails, cucumbers, star fish...ect.

And he was STARVING when I got him. Cruising the tank for food but never even looked twice at the inverts. Man he was a hungry fish the first time I fed him!

He already knows to beg me for food whenever I am near the tank. Hes getting used to captive life just fine :D

Can't wait to have to 200G set up for him though.

He was apparently sitting at the wholesalers in LA for a month or two before coming up here, so I guess he is used to tanks already.

Hey Mike!

Thanks!

I will post new pics when I get it up and running. Its not a FOWLR though so I don't want to post too much out of place...

Having said that, here is the current tank a month or so ago. Yeah I know its a reef and this is the wrong area...

The only difference now is that I have more corals and I added a Wavebox.

Hey! You can't get rid of us that easily! Remember, the forum is called FO and AGRESSIVE??!! Tangs, rabbitfish and tusks qualify as plenty aggressive to me. :) As long as you are as focused on the fish as the corals, you need to keep posting here. Your tanks are always inspirational, and us fish nerds are going to want to know about fish safe reefs (as opposed to reef safe fish). That's the only substantial difference, IMO.

You can't desert us just because you add a little stationary eye candy to the tank!

It's looking really nice Justin, keep us updated.

Also, I don't disagree with you often, Justin, but I'll eat my hat if that tusk leaves all your inverts alone. Shrimp and crabs are going to be awfully tempting...

Actually I agree :) I don't know how long they will last.

But I am shocked that the day he came he didn't go straight to eating them. For two reasons. One, he was so hungry and two he is still relatively "wild".

Who knows. Like so many fish it just depends. I think it will be one of those things where they will eventually go missing though :D

Oh and the new tank...since it is a 200 with 120G sump (so lots of water volume) it will be housing a trigger.

Suggestions?

I was thinking a pair of Blue Throats but then it might start getting crowded again.

Maybe a Pink Tail?

LisaD

I think pink tails get larger than blue throats, 40 cm according to fishbase. I'd go for the smaller trigger. I think blue throats are also more likely NOT to pick at your corals or bother your inverts.

Maybe get a smallish pair of blue throats, about 4 inches? If both reach adult size, you'll have to decide whether to expand, rehome or if your tank is big enough. Either way, you'll have some time before you need to make a decision.

Yeah good idea. I still have the 240G in my parents basement but I don't think the dimensions are as good as the new 200G for large fish. Even though the 240 is 8' long, its 2' wide and the new 200G is 2.5' wide. IMO that makes a huge difference.

The 240 is also acrylic which I am not a fan of. Especially if I add some triggers. They will scratch the heck out of it.

NIce tank! What happened to the undy? He'd love the 120g sump.

He went to a guy who kept pestering me for him and ended up committing a 90G to just him and a few damsels. I couldn't really pass that up.

I am doing my best now to only keep fish I have a proper LONG term home for. Any fish going into the 200G have to be fish that are not going to outgrow it.

It was hard to have to let go of so many fish the past few months because it just wasn't fair for me to keep them in "small" tanks. I guess it really became a moral issue for me.

I have been very careful with this tank and turned down a few fish that I really wanted (Sailfin) because the 200 would not be big enough. Even the Naso was a hard decision because the 200G is boarderline for him I think. He may very well outgrow that :(

I need to be careful about the trigger I add. I am still thinking Blue Throat.

DamnPepShrimp

Yeah, I'd definitely say a naso will out grow a 200g tank. The undy however will not outgrow a 120g sump! I think it would be a great addition. A single bluethroat would easily outgrow it though. Sorry you had to get rid of so many fish, but it sounds like you did the right thing.

Agreed, 100%...Additionaly I'd like to add that you should continue to post in this forum because your experience can still be significant. Just ask Lisa about stubborn puffer eating:rollface:

Yeah I gave her some advice on that and she said it worked! I was really happy that I MAY have helped her get that guy eating :)

LisaD

absolutely, your advice helped! now, puffer can't seem to stop eating! in fact, he has enjoyed munching my former reef! :)

if your post is fish-focused (even if it's just to post pics saying look how good my fish looks against these nice corals) then I say it belongs here or in Reef Fishes. your insights are too valuable for you to completely over to the dark side. :)
