I think there are some good articles on RC about the basics you need to keep SPS. This is a basic list of what you need to be able to give it a shot:
Strong Lighting (A lot of people use Metal Halides or T5's)
Good alternating current
Stable water parameters (alk/ca/mg/p04/n03/salinity/temp)
Quality skimmer
Good consistant Husbandry
and a LOT of patience (being a masochist helps too :lol:)
