The pair of P. Volitans I picked up two weeks ago.
Excuse the missing tank backround and the algae. I'm in the process of a major tank cleaning but snapped these today while they were eating.

Beautiful! I wish I could have a lion, my clownfish would not like that.

can you do me a favor and count the number of dorsal spines on both fish.

i'm curious... does the dark morph have only 11 and the reddish morph has 11-13

No problem Frank. I'll do it tomorrow when lights are on. Is there a question as to species?

Beautiful pair Jerry. You going to add anything else with them to replace the bfly?

Thanks Bo. At this point, no. They're content having the space to themselves. I'd thought of an eel but not sure so keeping that option open. One local lfs got some gorgeous Garabaldi damsels in yesterday for $70.00 each. Tempting!

Frank, both have 12 dorsal spines, with the last one being quite short on both. Had to count them a few times to be sure but it's definitely 12 each.

yup--- much appreciated.
Your dark phase fish looked like a P miles, but clearly w/ 12 spines it is not. they are both P volitans.
thanks for counting

Don't the Garabaldi require cooler water? If you do add something, I'd vote for a zebra eel.

Don't know about the Garabaldi. I'll look into the water temperature. The same lfs has a beautiful zebra moray for $149.00. About 2 feet long, thick and healthy. My tank is open top so I'd have to cover it if I opted for the eel.

Not to worry troyman;)
These fish eat better than I do. Shrimp, scallops, octo/squid. chunks of whitefish, silversides, clam....

They were eating frozen foods upon purchase, which was a plus, but lions I've kept before have all weaned over quite easily.

Jerry, do you add any supplements for your coraline growth? Those rocks are very nice.

Nope. I've been lucky with the coraline. I have a good deal of it on most of the rocks, even some of the heavy encrusting type.:)
