We are under a severe icestorm here in Ky I need to get a generator...How many amp generator will I need?

I have 4 tunze pumps and may need to light the tank 400watt?

what do you think I will need? I can get a 1000watt 8 amp Honda generator for $700?

Ouch. I bought a Briggs and Stratton 5500 Watt last winter for $700 at Home Depot. Look around for a better deal.

Don't worry about amps, just add up how many watts your equipment uses and then add another 15-25% to be safe. Watts and amps are directly proportional.

I ran my entire tank (see sig), my fridge, plasma TV, and a host of other goodies off a 5500 watt'er. Have you lost power yet? I'm in Northern KY so whatever you got I'll be getting.

Based on the pricing, I assume he's looking at the Honda portable ECO generators. They are OUTSTANDING.

I have the 2k one, and it does a good job running all my important hardware. 3 panworld, a few powerheads, heaters, calcium reactor if necessary, actinic lighting (no need for full MH unless you're out for days and days), etc. I also turn on my deepfreeze and mini-fridge for fish food, as well as my normal fridge.

Basically, add your watts and amps, and see if the unit handles it. For the minor price jump from 1k to 2k,, I didn't even consider the 1k.
