UV lights

I was told by the store that UV lights would kill ICH and other parasites potentially harmful to the tank. How long does it take a UV light to start working. I've had it on my tank 57 watt on a 120 for a week now. Will it keep your fish from getting ICH. If the fish do get ICH, does it help the fish get rid of it.

UV sterilizers can help in an Ich outbreak and there is some evidence that they can prevent or at least slow down an RTN outbreak in a tank containing sps corals but you must have the proper water flow to give the proper contact time. Follow the instructions that came with your unit.
