My female Naso has been in qt for going on 4 weeks now and seems to be doing fine other than not eating any meaty foods. The last couple of days she has been breathing noticibly heavy but didnt know why and then check the temp in the tank and saw that it 80 degrees. It has been around 76 so could that have anything to do with her breathing ? Maybe the heater is malfunctioning.

check some of the other water params....I think they may be the real problem

Anybody else in the QT with her?

Was the temperature spike sudden?

How are your dissolve oxygen levels? Do you have enough flow in the tank?

I would add a powerhead in there just in case. Tangs & trigs love to swim toward the phs. The drawback is that it will bring more heat into the tank. You may want to check the heater in case that's the cause?

I had it happen once when I did a tank move. All I had to do was remove part of the return to the tank and the fish were fine within a few minutes.

The salinity is 1.20, thats where I always keep it, helps keep down on parisites. The heater wont go down on temp no matter if I turn it all the way down. She is all by her self. Couldnt tell you if the temp spiked suddenly or not. As far as flow it was no problem for her for the last 3 weeks, dont know why that would have changed ?
