I'm wondering if Marine Depot's total price, with shipping, for the dual 1-gallon jugs for $40 is high. Seems high.

Where does everyone buy their b-ionic? DFS doesn't even carry it.

thanks -

Seems about right to me. Why not use randys recipe if your worried about price?

can't find Dowflake around these parts. Looked for about 2 years.

PLUS i heard that Dowflake is a different recipe now that might have bad additives. haven't found more info on it so i gave up the hunt. Found Prestone Driveway Heat, but now DF.

I've always wondered but never asked; how is Randy's 2-part comparable to B-Ionic, when B-Ionic contains all the trace elements and such besides just Ca and Alk????

It works better than fine.

1. Bulkreefsupply basically sells pre-packaged additives from Randy's two-part recipe (Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium).

2. Regular water changes provide all of the trace elements you need.

Anything else is just snake oil IMO.

thanks everyone

so I'll try ESV direct or aquariumSpecialty.com

but i also like the BulkReefSupply.com

I was looking at the b-ionic because it seems that most agree that it's the best retail 2-part out there. How does bulkreefsupply ingredients compare? much cheaper, i see, but what about Results?

thanks again

There is no reason to assume that any two part has more (or less) trace elements than the DIY recipes. All of these come in as impurities in the main ingredients. For example, when using Dowflake, the amount of potassium present as an impurity in the Dowflake is exactly appropriate to provide ionic balance (a lucky break).
