Is the par very very low on these bulbs? I had the 14000k Coralife bulb that was well over one year old. I replaced it with an XM 10000k bulb but I didn't like the color and it was too bright for my Haddoni Carpet Anemone.

The new 10000k bulb was only a little brighter than the old 14000k bulb. Because of this I figured a brand new 20000k bulb would be a little less bright than the very old 14000k bulb. Boy was I wrong. The tank looks very very dark. I know the 20000k bulbs have less par than a 14000k bulb but I didn't think it would go from bright to very dark. Is this normal?

Chihuahua6,

Thank you for your post. We have contacted Current USA in reference to your question about the 20,000k 150 watt HQI bulbs. They report their bulbs don’t have measurements for par ratings. However, using a 20,000 K bulb will have more blue in the coloration. According to Current USA if you are using actinic in conjunction with the 20,000 K the aquarium will appear darker.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

I do not have actinics on this tank. I understand it will be more blue and not as bright as the 14000k but I was surprised that it's as dark as it is. Maybe that's just the way 20000k bulbs are.

Thanks for your reply.
