I thought I would post some pics and some video under 10K bulbs. For the video I actually turned down the dimmable ballasts all the way and was still getting numbers between 750-850 PAR at the surface. The key thing here is I basically turned a 10K bulb into the look of a 12K or 14K bulb and still have a good amount of light from them. At full or overdrived these bulbs are measuring incredibly high. Glad I have a PAR meter and a dimmable ballast with these because going from 1000/1100 FROM 12k to 1600 On these 10k's on the surface could mean baked corals even at 15" off the surface.

Hope you enjoy the video. I did absolutely no corrections to it and it appears after compressing it it came out a bit dark. Sorry about that but I really want to just bang some of these videos out so you guys can see them an not have to wait for the whole editing process which can take days. This video is right out of the camera.

Interesting. I will have to try the 10k dimmed down this weekend.
Jim, Your tank is really looking good. Your reef has really started taking off. Looks good man Keep it up. BTW the video in HD is awesome.

Thanks man! Glad you liked the video. Whenever you are ready I can come out and finally shoot your tank again. I can take some video too if you want...

Turning the 10K's down really works and like I said the level of blue gets deeper blue as you turn it down. It really appears like a 14K turned all the way down. And again there is still a lot of usable light so anyone using Reeflux 10K's and have dimmable ballasts should turn them down a bit.

All the Reeflux 10K and 12K testing I have seen has a 10% increase in PAR from the 10K to the 12K. Makes logical sense but honestly I am seeing these 10K's as much brighter than the testing I have seen.

So you still get more PAR with 10k eventhough is turned down? or the PAR is higher when driven normally?

Actually with a new 250w 12K I generally am getting between 1000-1200 at the surface fully driven and the 10K is getting between 750-850 with the ballast turned all the way down. Now if I crank up the 10K just a tad I can easily get to 1000 PAR and the light is very blue - not your typical bright sunny 10K that most people are used to. Hopefully that answers your question...

Keep attention towards the end of the video to see the tank under 10K bulbs cranked down 1/3 the way to see how much brighter it is then the rest of the video which was cranked all the way down. This will give you an idea if you look in the beginning of the first video and the end of the second to see the blue 10K and the much brighter white 10K.

Well enjoy the second part... should have more to come...

So what I wanted to show you guys is how you can have multiple bulb sets in one with dimmable ballasts and with 10K's you will still get a ton of light.

I will be posting some PAR numbers of these 10K's in the upcoming weeks... I was hoping with all these PAR meters out there now that people would get off their rump and would have posted a bunch of numbers somewhere here on RC. Seems like a waste to not share what people are measuring especially with 100 meters out there...

Anyway another quick video so you can see the difference...

thx for the work! the comparison video is fantastic! when you shot the video, did you have *just* the MH on or is the T5 also on? what reflector are you running? What's the height of your tank?

How do you think running the ReefLux 10K bulk turned all the way down compares to running the new ReefLux 20K bulb undimmed?

Do you think, same results.... on 400?
I am willing to try! :D

The video shows just the bulbs no T5's... From what it seems turning down the 10K's makes them look more like a 12K. The Par should be a little less depending upon ho far you turn them down...

In terms of the Reeflux 10K turned down in comparison to the 20K.... This you will see a difference. The 20K's just have that nice shade of blue you would expect from a 20K. Also I am finding the same result as everyone else running 20K's - they are stronger than the 12K's.

I have been running the 20K's for a week and a half now. They are beautiful, but honestly I am really starting to really like the look of Reeflux 10K's...

My tank is 25" deep and I am runing 3 mini LumenBright reflectors...

I don't see why you could not do the same with 400w bulbs...

Jim, are you going to post PAR numbers on the 10ks turned all the way down vs all the way up?

From his first post, it looks like with the 10K turned all the way up, he was getting 1,600 at the surface vs. 750-850 at the surface turned all the way down... hope this helps :)

The video shows the bulbs turned down approximately one third and I was still getting well over 1000 on the surface. 10K's are really strong. I will have 10K numbers asap with them run full right before overdriving... Sorry I did not record the numbers totally when they were turned down. I just did some spot measurments here and there..

The point here is the 10K's can be slowly ramped up and even with them halway turned down you are still getting a lot of usable light.
