Nice! How long have you had it? I've read on a few threads that some people were having trouble keeping the green color. Are you having any troubles?

When I got it is lost the green right away and I had no growth from it for about 4 months. Just got its green back in the last few months and is starting to take off.

Here is a macro of one, all I have and the lights are off now.

The green on mine isn't nearly as predominant as yours. With the polyps out the green is barely noticeable.

Ill take a picture of the whole frag tomorrow.

Does yours grow slow?

I definitely have plans to pick up one of these and a superman digi as well.

I am not sure if you would consider it a slow grower or not. It is not the fastest nor the slowest in my tank.

Here is a photo of the frag when I got it in October, following which is a photo of it now.

As I said before you can't really see the green when the polyps are out, and the little you can see does not come out very well in my photos, maybe if I had a top down photobox.

Here is a photo with the polyps retracted after a little work from my turkey baster. You can see the green a bit more. Still not great though.

They have two versions at Atlantis. One is the original forest fire and the other is an ATL forest fire. The ATL version has blue around the base.

Got this as a frag from a friend, it receded way back, and has started to grow and develop nice color. I have no idea of the original source or if its forest on fire or not, but with all the green algae around it, it really does look like the forest is on fire. :D

I have a piece of this also and like others have mentioned it lost color almost immediately after adding it to my tank. I was absolutely beautiful in the store and looks like butt in my tank.

Where do you guys have these placed in the tank? Lighting and flow?

I have 1, 250 W MH and really descent flow, from a couple of modded MJ's.

Thanks

Here is mine. Lost most of its green color. Although, it has gained some back since I have been carbon dosing. I now have it right under some pretty high power T5's in my new tank.

I think it might get its color back if I move it down. This pic was taken MONTHS ago and the piece is way thicker and much larger.

Any votes for moving it low light to get the best color?

Mine is low, at the bottom of a standard 180. About 100 PAR on the meter, and in moderate random flow.

Mine took a nasty turn when it looked like some sort of fungal infection (there's a thread in this forum somewhere on it), although it was a "orange polyped green based digitata" not a "forest fire" :D sure it's the same thing. I put it in lower light and well it hasn't died on me, but yeah base is not very green.

Wow $60!! Holy cow, is that how much everyone is paying for this coral. One of the LFS here, has 1/2 off (almost) all corals on weekends, and I am a bember in a local reef club, that the owner gives a 20% discount for. The frag I got has two branches that are each 3" and the coral, all said and done coct me $8.51!!!! It's normally ony $20 though.

I've had the same coral for about 7 years now with multiple generation of frags and can trace it back about 10 years. I didn't realize someone finally slap a name on it. You'll see the green better under actinic or 20K bulb. Too much lights will fade the green or the red/orange polyp will be too dense and cover the green base. I have mine 1/2 way up a 30" deep tank under 400W MH. I've always call it my orange and green monti digita. I wonder where the "Forest Fire" label got started. Just glad that no one decided to slap a designer label like "Versace" on it or worse yet put their own name ( like "John Doe's Special") on something that's been around for a while... at least in the Mid-Atlantic area. Very nice coral and definitely great beginner coral since it's pretty hardy and tolerant of abuse. Color can vary based on placement and light. Mine is a bit too happy and the polyps almost cover all the green base but you can see the nice green when polyps are retracted.

These pics are about 2 years old

This was my first SPS, but was known as ROAB's Green and Orange Montipora digitata.

Forest fire rolls off the tongue easier.

Does this coral need to grow to a certain size to start turning green or does it turn green as a frag? I just got a frag and have great color but no green.

Fraggle Reef sells them way cheaper than ATL.

I got a fully encusted frag on a 1" frag plug and it had a few branches. It's starting to turn green and the frags I made already colored up. I payed $15 for mine and it grows like a weed.

The green can be sometimes a bit finicky to show. I seem to remember it comming in with indirect lighting better than being blasted.
