I am wondering if there is a huge difference in salts and which one is recommended for a reef tank.

I use OCEANIC because it has a higher level of needed elements for maintaining a healthy reef environment. it also dissolves quickly.

Instant Ocean here.
Been using it for 24 years.

Ya.. I used IO for years... But Is seemed that IO was good for FOWLR.... But not for a reef tank, It was lacking calcium levels As well as other trace elements Needed for corals.

When I used IO, I had to add Chemical supplements to maintain the correct levels.

I dont like to add chemicals........I like natural

This was exactly my experience... when using IO, I was making Kent Marine very happy adding all those supplements...it was a real balancing act to keep KH, CA and MG where I wanted them.

Since changing to Reef Crystals several months ago, the only thing I have to watch is KH. I just buffer my water change RO/DI a little. All other parameters are perfect for a reef tank...

JMHO.
