Will a 65 watt power compact ballast run a 96 watt bulb? I know that the max output of the 96 watt bulb would only be 65 watts since the wattage is limited by the ballast. I would test this myself but I don't have any 96 watt bulbs.

I don't think it will fire. So my best guess is no.

It will fire, but of course no where near as bright as a 96W. Tried it myself on a 55 watt ballast.

Did the bulb seem to put out the 55w?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

My guess is that the light would be close to useless. The intensity would not be nearly what it should be because the energy used to flouresce the phosphors inside would be dragged out along a longer tube.

There could also be damage done to the bulb. Not sure if it actually would, but it's possible.

i would say it might fire it but not as bright as it should be and probably will effect the life of the bulb
