Well, since the initial cones s cylinder skim-off I've let the MSX250 and the MSX Cone 2S continue to run side by side. These pics are of 4 days of skimming since the last cleaning!

The cone seems to be "shutting down" the cylinder

Here's the pics:

Both together and collection cup pics...

Overall, I'm VERY surprised at this. There is what i thought would be PLENTY of bio-load to keep both of these skimmers and the 1A working hard. Maybe the 2S should be rated higher???

this is the same system that the first test was performed in (you can see the first test and system description here (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1553660) .)

You guys should be at the shop when it is time to empty the collection cups. It is horrible, the smell will make you gag.

Im going back and forth on which one of these I want for a 225g tank setup I am working on.

At 225g I am in the middle of the range for either of these units. Do you think I should go for the cone, or will I be good to go with the MSX?

250 is cheap, and very nice.

cones are new, I am going to wait until it is the norm and will be cheaper. another year or so years prob. + by that time everyone will know how to tweek it to make it better.

Yes, the 250 is "bang for your buck"!

I don't see cone prices going down anytime soon...the cost to mfr them just won't allow them to come down.

MBVette:With that said, it really depends on the bio-load of your system and your particular husbandry method as to which skimmer will be "best" for you. If you want, call me sometime and we can discuss it. I really don't want to say "get the cone" just to make a sale...we'd much rather put you with the skimmer that will best skim YOUR particular system :)

No Joke!!!

Joe worked in sanitation for YEARS and really can't smell most of the foulest things....and even He mad the comment that it was NASTY smelling one day when he walked in after I cleaned the cups :lol:

One thing that I have noticed Is that the Cone recovers almost twice as fast from feedings. I thought it was just coincidental at first, but it is ALWAYS forming a foam head a good hour before the 250 does. This COULD account for the increased production.
