View Full Version : Turning off Co2 to CA Reactor

I accidentally let my CA reactor drive the tank up to 460calcium and 11dkh.... I cut off the CO2 supply to let the system lower the dKH naturally and slowly but didn't cut the water supply since I just refilled the media and didn't want sulfur to trash the media.

I decided to test the params tonight since some of my SPS don't look very happy and found PH to be 8.6 or higher, dKH at 10, and CA at 405 via test kits. My PH probe has been dead for quite some time and I ordered a new one on Monday but it has not arrived yet so I won't get a way to backup that test number for a few more days.

Can just turning off the CO2 cause any problems such as high PH?

I have a large Beckett and a large NW skimmer running together so aeration shouldn't be an issue. I do not dose lime water but was planning on it since I am battling Dinos and last time my PH probe worked the tank was consistent at 8.1 PH with the CA reactor running. The photo period is reduced to 4 hours and SG is 1.024.

Thanks for any insight on the high PH.

I doubt turning off your reactor had that much of an affect on pH.

I'd wait until you get your new pH probe and go from there.

If your corals looked good at 11 dkh, and 460 calcium, I'd be inclined to leave it there.

Personally, I'd turn the reactor and CO2 back on and enjoy your tank.

If your tank looks good, it probably is. :)

That pH is measured where? In the reactor? I expect it is not really that high in the tank, even if that is where the probe is.
