I was wondering what is a good method to remove ammonia. My tank is clean of all wastes and large amounts of algea. I dont know what it is. If someone knows please respond.

Water change! Also, I use HOB filters on my 55gal, and I am all but certain that these guys with their biowheels in effect convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate in record time. I have never detected ammonia in my tank, but I certainly have trouble with nitrates!

Thank you for the advice. I'll be sure to do that.

Why do you think you have elevated ammonia in your tank ? What test kit are you using ?

I use the Red Sea test kit.

I am not a fan of Red Sea test kits. You may want to get a second opinion before getting all worried and changing things.

API, Salifert and Elos all make pretty good kits for testing ammonia levels. Or take a water sample to your lfs and ask them to test it. Most do it for free. Make sure to ask them which brand kit they use. :)

Also what are you putting in the tank? Many of the ammonia/nitrate nutrilizers, bind up the ammonia, but allow it to still show up on some test kits.
