Today was the big day. With the help of some great friends i finally set up my 75G RR tank. I will be updating this thread when ever there are updates on the tank. Here are some specs on it.

75G RR Tank
30G sump
40LBS of sand
20LBS of live sand
75LBS of live rock
75 Gallons of water
Berlin Skimmer
1/4HP chiller - Pacific Coast Imports CL600
Koralia 4
Mag 7

As of right now the tank is to cloudy to do anything. Just waiting for it to settle so i can move the live rock's around. Once it clears up and i move to rocks i will get updated pic's to post. I would like to give a shout out to everyone who helped me today. Here are some pic's of the tank. Enjoy :)

the coil on that chiller looks a little dirty, might wanna clean that up so you don't burn up the compressor.

but besides that, looks good.

coryjac0b - Yea i noticed that once i posted the pics. Just got it yesterday. Will clean it ASAP

have you turned everything off (like a power outage) it seems your water level is really high in your sump

The Fish Finder
02/14/2009, 10:35 PM
stuccodude - Yes we have done that. Ive been around long enough to know that's the first thing you check once the tank is done. Thanks for the heads up though in case i did forget to check it

I have now cleaned the screen for the chiller so there is no longer a interference with the air flow.

Nice to see you back on the board Fish Finder. Will you be netting any tropicals this summer?

DamnPepShrimp - I am plaining on 4 to 5 of these fish. I have 9 listed but i will only be doing 4 to 5 of them. The tank though is based around the deep water anthias from HWI.

wrought iron butterfly fish
Flame box fish
Yellow Hawaiian Deepwater Anthias, Odontanthias fuscipinnis *
Shaw's trunkfish pair
Northern Blue Devil
Brown Banded Butterflyfish
Bandit Angel
Catalina gobies *

Fish with the * will deff be in the tank. Any fish suggestions are also welcomed. Tank will be 68-70F.

Hey man!!!! Great to see you back in the game. I almost gave up with my display during my move. Headache after headache. After all and all I am happy to say all the fish are doing great except I lost my little Coris gaimard that disappeared during the move. Anyway my man I see that chiller and I know some delicious things are to come....!!!! Maybe something from the DEEP!!! So are you still going for the fish below?????? If so your the man!!!! Hope all is well!! Can't wait for this damn Winter to end and we can get he line wet and catch some linesiders!!! Later, Tim

Yes i am ;) that's the main reason why i am doing this tank. Another one is a kind of butterflyfish you always wanted. Since the tank is going to be the right temp those two will be my center peaces. From there i will surround them with other nice cheaper fish.

Well if anyone knows the chains of command to obtain these fish it's you my man. I may have to go temperate and jump on board. Though I don't think I can swing a fultispinnis, a Wrought could be in my price range. LMK when you bring them in, as you know I would love a Wrought. Sexy combo!!! a Wrought and a Haw anthias!!! To bring it full circle, I'm thinking interruptus!!! Also there are rumors of debilious coming soon!!! Just look at the picture montage!!! Tim

Thanks for all the pic's T. Your making me want to speed up what im doing but i can't. Yea i was thinking about what kind of combo would look best. U know i always wanted the anthias and from talking to a few people i now also have the butt available to me. I would do a interruptus if i could get a small one. All the one's ive seen the last few years were full grown ones. When i am ready to get the butt ill let you know if there is more then one available. I told them i want one 3-4" max. They will be a LOT cheaper then LA lol.

I was thinking of a schooling fish to add to the tank and i have decided on Eastern Hulafish. Google it and let me know what you think. Also any suggestions are welcomed ;)

That's a pretty heady wish list... I was going to tell you about the hula fish at liveaquaria but it already sold.
Good luck, I'll definitely be checking back on this set-up.

Are you planning on getting any invertebrates?

Because i will be doing some coral and i got a steal on the set up. People froget this is a cool water set up and not a cold water set up. I have talked to a few people that have tanks in the 68-70F range and they said the best lighting for the tank would be 250W MH. The MH will only be on for 4 hours (the brightest part of the day). and then i will have T5's coming on for the first and last 2 - 2 1/2 hours. So the lighting will be sun rise T5 then mid day MH then Sun set T5's. Follow?

Odontanthias fuscipinnis! Thanks for the info, I hadn't seen one before. So in more common terms it is a Hawaiian Deepwater Anthias?

How deep are they found? I am guessing it likes cooler water? Are they all females to begin with like many of the other anthias (and then the alpha goes male)? And if you are keeping them in this tank, I take it that the are a bit aggressive? [Sorry for all the questions- I don't know the aggressive species very well and I'm trying to learn.]

It is a beautiful fish! Goodluck.

(I have Sunburst Anthias for my Midas Blenny to swim with.)

No worries ask anything you wish.

These are extremely rare anthias and there price make's the gem tang look cheep. Yes there more common term is HWI deep water anthias. There collected at 500F i be leave. All the one's that have been seen were ether male or female so idk to be honest. They aren't aggressive there the same temperament i herd as the Borbonius Anthias. I wish i would be able to keep more then one. But way to expensive to do so. I have been saving for the last two years for this fish.

Anything else you wish to know feel free to ask.

I follow but you won't be able to keep the regular SPS corals or mostly what you see in common reefs, correct? So you'd only be able to keep slightly deeper water (not cold) corals, and I would think they wouldn't get 250w halide light in the ocean? I would think T5s would be plenty for any corals you keep at 68 degrees? But whatever works for you, I honestly know nothing about cold/cool water setups, but am learning now!

Yes that is right i will not be able to keep regular sps. But i will be able to keep reg softies (zoa's, shrooms, ect ect). I will be trying some of the sea fan's and sea whips that need the stronger lighting.
