float valve?

1-BFS-174_ does this one work on salt water, lime water?
2-shipping charges on paypal is the actual shipping rate?

I suspect it would work on salt water, and not so well on kalk. My concern on this or any other float valve would be mineral build up on the part of the float that forms a seal and stops fluid flow.
