You must got these crabs form the Gulf of Mexico. There are plenty of these guys her in the Texas coast
I can't ID them in term of Scientific names, but if you look at the claw, the crabs that feed mainly on plants will have a round tip of the claws, like a spoon. These guys have sharp tipped claws and thus mainly predators. They will decimated your snails. They are difficult to get out once in your tank. I have to keep them hungry and then trap them with rawfish as bait in a vertical set glass again the rock. Once the go after the fish and fall into the glass, they cannot get our again.

Could be a mithrax crab and jusdging from the claws looks to be one that might scavenge and consume algae. Crabs can be pretty iffy however... Personally I'd give him a chance to be a good citizen. Well, as much as I would an emerald crab.

i thought of that too but his claws have black and white, and his legs aren't "hairy".

Still stumped on Id.

Where did you find him? It could be a commensal crab; it's definitely small enough...

Yeahard to say. He hitchhiked on some LR.
He was living with a clown and a large black mithrax crab for a good year.
