I just bought this. I didn't look at it good enough before he bagged it up.. I paid $70 for this. It is over a softball in size on the healthy part.

Is this going to die? Is there anything I should do? They had the dead part in a bin and the dead part wasn't getting any light... Should I do anything to make it healthy and be able to grow any more?

How and with what? Through the whole rock or just scrape the dead parts off the rock?

dip it in procoral cure or revive. i would watch it and if the recession continues then you can superglue the edge of the receding tissue. these aren't like sps, they are much hardier so i don't think fraggin is necessary IME

i suggest just keeping it in good light and expect it to grow over the dead skeleton.

You can buy or borrow a "water pick", a dentist tool, and use RO/DI water with iodine and blast/cut away the nerotic tissues. This will remove the infected tissue as well as kill off any remaning infection (we hope). Do not do this surgery in your tank!

good luck.

I agree, no need to cause further damage.

Everyone says the white around it is bad and unless you cut it off it will keep turning white...

This is definitely the way to go. Best to just leave it alone, keep it under quality lights and ideal water conditions and just watch it grow. That skeleton will begin to be covered in good time

It may be white band disease. Soak it in Lugols.

judging by the algae on the skeleton, I would guess the recession has slowed way down. The tissue has good pigment. I agree with the suggestion to dip it and then leave it alone. I would be careful about exposing it to extremely high light intensity tho.

I took it back today for store credit. The ower emailed me and told me to either bring it back so he could cut it or for credit.. I took it back for credit as it looked like the inside might not be too good either...
