I am looking at setting up either a 180 72 x 24 x 24, or a 150 60 x 18 x 30 (Length width height) gallon mixed reef. If people could comment on their experiences with these dimensions, that would be great. As far as lighting goes, I think I would go w/400 watt halides for the 150 gallon, given the 30 inch height. Do you think I could get away with 2-400s (5 foot tank length). Also I plan
on using the new generation reflectors which improve spread. Also would two vortechs (mp40) be suffecient flow for these tanks. Thanks in advance.

i would go with the 180. IMO depth and length is greater than height.

Agreed... Stay away from the 150 and go with the length and depth. Not height.
Agreed that the 150 isn't a good choice. It's difficult to light and it so deep it's hard to work in/maintain (unless your arms are so long your knuckles drag on the ground when you walk upright.)
A 120 48X24X24 is a better alternative to the 180 imho, if you don't want to go that big.

You could also go with a 150 that's 60x24x24. That's what I have and I'm happy with it. Although it would be nice if I had that extra foot of length.
I've always heard go as big as you can afford, because no matter how big it is you're going to fill it up and wish you had more.

I'd get the 180 gallon.

I would definitely go with the longer length and width. My 80g is 48x18 and I wish I had another 6" or so in width, gives you a lot more room to scape in.

I think the 24" depth is a key to great aquascaping.

go with the 72x24x24 180g- one of the best dims for a reef aquarium.
60 x 18 x 30 is a terrible size for many reasons.

I have a 150 that is 48x30x25 and really like having a 30" width.
