i just bought a yellow eye tang that is about half an inch to 1 inch in size. it seems very healthy and eating very well. i need to know if it will be okay in my 40 gallon tank until my new 80 gallon tank gets here in 4 weeks. the guy at the fish store told me they are slow growers and should be fine in my 40 gallons until my new tank gets there. i couldnt pass it up since ive never seen them that small

I'm assuming you mean the yellow eye kole tang, and yes he will be fine in there for a little while until your bigger tank is ready. I don't think I've seen a kole that small before, got a pic :)

You lucky sob, I've been looking for a kole tang that size and cant find one. As nikon said he will be fine in your 40 until your new tank is setup.

Larger tanks are always a plus for tangs. Ctenochaetus strigosis, Kole tang, yellow eye) is , however , on of the smaller ones, growing to a maximum of about 7 inches, It should be ok in an 80 gallon. Remember it's a tang and prone to ich infestatins so quarantine would be very prucent.

Weird now that I think about it I have never seen a small Kole tang. Seen lots of tiny Blue Hippos, mine was the size of a quarter when I got him. Some smaller Yellow Tangs and PBT and others. They had to be small once, but all I have ever seen have been pretty good size.

The guy at your LFS is right about being slow growing, I've had mine for a year and can't really see much growth. +1 on the quarantine comment, mine got ich in qt, but has recovered nicely.

I have a large one. It eats from the rocks constantly. recently it started to devour the nori on the veggie clip. but what he likes the most is the sailfin tang poop.
