Canopy design

I am in the process of building a stand and canopy for my new 90 gallon AGA

I am planing to use T-5 retrofit kits. How high should the canopy be, or stated another way, how much distance should there be between the lights and the water

Also, should I use anything between the lights and water to prevent splashing?

Hello
If your using 3 peice (waterproof) end caps, 4 to 6" from the water will work. Just remember to leave enough room to work on the aquarium.

I have 6" room on the top of my 90 with plenty of work room but three of the six lights are on the flip-top lid so when lifted they go up and out of the way as well.

i'm doing mine 5" since the fans in the side are 4.5"

putting my light shelf on 2-way drawer slides that slide forward to do bulb changes & rearward to gain full access to the tank :)
