hello I though it would be fun to post a build thread on my somewhat of a new build....The plan which has been done many times I suppose
is to link 2 90's together with a 30g sump and 55g refugium.

one of the 90's I currently have up and running for over a year. It's a mixed reef but mostly SPS...The other 90 I will be picking up this sunday I in my opinion got it for a steal. I do not know exactly what it will turn into. Maybe a mixed reef so the 1st 90 will be strickly SPS.

The plan is to replace the stand of the current 90 with one that is 40" tall...tired of looking down in the tank. The 30g sump that is under the 90 now will be put under the new 90 and the 55 fuge will gravity drain into the sump where the skimmer is...I do have some build pics so I will post them in a few...

I am currently at a stand still since I don't have the other 90 yet and didn't want to tear the current 90 down and leav it in a tub for a week....No need to cause more stress than I have to.

Well that is it so tell me what you think and I will start uploading the pics in a few.

mike

This is the new stand for the current 90. My little brother and I built it for a 48x24x12 frag tank I had..I ended up selling it to a buddy of mine and then he decided he was gonna use it so he gave it back to me. The stand is actually 6 inches wider than it has to be. But I found a use for the extra space....lol

I added an American dj power supply:

I added extra bracing to all 4 corners and the back.

Then I cut and installed the top for the tank to rest on...still gotta get the pink insulation for the top.

drilled the hole and fitted the bulkhead.

the 55g fuge will sit between the 2 90's and gravity feed into the 30g sump under the new 90 and then one return for both tanks. I needed it to be 4 inches higher than the sump so a 2x4 fram was built for it to sit on.

So is there any thoughts on my plan? Any ideas to make it better?

Very intersesting, How are you planning to lay out the tanks? side by side? Seperate rooms?

side by side..they will be 4 or so feet apart...that is were the 55g fuge will sit.

Now I need to figure out if I need a new return pump to retrun both tanks...the 90 I am picking up[ has a return pump but I don't know what kind guess I'll have to wait and see sunday...lol

Hey man, your current 90 looks nice! And this build will def be interesting to follow.

3 things jump out at me right away.

The posts, I was going to do the same thing. Actually got as far as cutting 2 legs when I decided to read up a bit in the DIY forum. Pressure treated wood I found out should not be used in doors, its got arsnick (sp) in it or some other bad chemicals from the pressure treating process.

The DJ pwr strip, I would be nervous with its current position which Im guessing will be right next to the tank. If you have a over fill situation, or splash some water around during maintenance you could mess that thing up pretty bad.

Another thing was the stand itself, is the edge of the tank going to be on the 2x4s screwed to the posts? Or the edges will actually be set back a bit and fall on the posts? I dont know if having that much weight on the screws is good. (edit* ahh nice, I see now in the pic below that this issue was addressed. good deal!)

Im tagging along for this one :)
