Does anyone know what those little pests starfish are that multiply? And is there a way to get rid of them? They kind of look like baby sand sifting stars but there not.

They are cool looking to me. Wish I had more. I also was told they are beneficial to your tank...so enjoy!!

Hello,

well corectly they are written "asterina"; (edit: ups, sanababit was faster)
ok - you can make money out of everything. Some could be getting really rich if they sell their asterinas (me included).
Yes the harlequin shrimp eats them, but if all are gone the shrimp has to be feeded with starfish not to starve.
I first removed them when doing water changes by sucking them out with the hose, but that never was sufficient enough.
During night a lot of them sit on the tank glas and those I now remove in the morning with this tool as well:
Starcatcher (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=DE&hl=de&v=cXSsEa5jgvY)
produced by "Aqua Driver" http://www.aquadriver-shop.de/shop/details.php?id=23&kategorie=5&main_kat=&start=0&nr= - as I have some Archaster angulatus in the tank which would be killed by the harlequin shrimp and I therefore can only use a "biological" tool.

regards

Markus

If you have time pick them off the glass with a net everymorning this will help bring there numbers down dramatically.

I ahd them everywhere, and got a harliquin shrimp. He eats them very good. I do have to buy a starfish every 5-6 weeks for him now, but he is so cool I don't mind. Not only that, they are still in there. In between the starfish I give him he still eats the little ones. I have had him for about 1.5 years and he worked great.
