I posted a thread about these white things a few weeks ago but I couldn't get a decent picture. A few people came back with ideas but now that I have some semi-decent pictures can anyone confirm what these white things are?? I'm talking about the white "stringy" things on the rock.

And a closer up piccy:

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it seems there are little "hairs" coming off the end of each one?

Yeah, they look like tiny little hairs.
And I mean tiny - they are only a few mm long each one!!

Any idea what they might be??

Could be neomeris beginning to grow. Neomeris annulata. It's a calcerous algae.

It's been in the tank for weeks and is still white!!!
I'll google it though and see if it starts off like the white things I have!!

Are you sure it's not a fungus as I had some on my LR. Try blowing it off with a turkey baster. If it blows off it's probably a fungus.

Nope, it doesn't blow off either......I've googled the other stuff but none of the pictures look like what I've got.

Bryozoans, possibly. Some are quite ornate but others look like white branching "whiskers" on the live rock.

Well, mine don't look like any of the pictures on those websites but they do look like white whiskers......

the second link has some pictures that look more like the typical ones found in aquariums.

Do they have a little hair / filament at the end? Or do they have "whiskers" like a broom?

They are a type of filter feeding worm

Perfectly safe. Enjoy them
