I have a pair of clowns that lay eggs on a regular basis and I know that one of the requirements on trying to raise fry is to have a ready supply of phyto. So please share you phyto growing setups. Thanks for your help.

That site calls for 5 ml Miracle Grow/2 L bottle. That seems a bit high. I grow the stuff with only 1.5 ml of Miracle Gro per gallon (4 L) and I don't bother with the trace elements. I use ordinary tap water, which has some of that in it already. I do use a 250 W metal halide bulb to illuminate 4 gallons of culture and it takes about a week to develop an opaque dark green. I've had success with nanocloropsis, tetraselmis and DT's blend.
One thing of note, Miracle Gro has a lot of phosphates and nitrates, which end up in your DT. It will raise the levels of these in your DT if you add too much fertilizer. I'm experimenting with getting a filter apparatus to separate the phyto from the culture water. It's on order and I let everyone know my results.

So you have used DT's by themself as a culture ? How do you do that ?

This is how they do it at a research station where I grew up.
I did work for them in summer vacations some years ago. If you look at the article on artemia production, I was actually setting up parts of the system they have there.

I just bought some Phyto-Feastâ„¢ Live .... my understanding is that the "live' product is better than DT's for using as a started culture.

Anybody with more info as to how to use DT's as a starter culture ??

Clown fry eat rotifers and not phyto. Also the rotifers must be live. I tried raising fry for many months and gave up as the survival rate was nil. It takes ALOT of work and seperate raising tanks. If you leave them in the main tank they will be eaten or get overflowed and skimmed to death. I really tried as my breeding pair is Ocelaris (mom) and Black Perc (dad). I wanted so much to see what the color result would be.
rotifers culture...
automatic traslation.
