i just ordered a mystery wrasse but it is way to small and my eel will eat it. this fish cost me over 100 dollars. he is acclimating and i have no idea what to do. he will die if i leave him in there or he will get eaten. i emailed and called them several times and no answer. does anyone know what i should do?

i am really upset about this

My best idea would be to remove the Eel temporarily(i don't know what kind you have, but i know they tend to be hardy), and get the mystery wrasse in the system. I'm not sure how long you can keep the eel in the QT tank, but if there is a close reefing friend who'd be willing ot store it, that might help.

I don't own either kind of fish, so this is all third party to knowledge :D, but i hope it helps

Post in a local NJ reef club and try to sell him to a local at a good price. $100 is a pretty good price for a mystery wrassse but if push comes to shove I bet someone would be at your doorstep to take him off your hands quickly for $75 or $50. Your sump is another possibility for a temp holding spot if you have one...

will he get torn up by the skimmer?

I agree with Peter, there are probably plenty of people ready to take the wrasse off your hands. If you don't have a sump or QT, i think you'll have to pick between one or the other.

What type of pump are we talking? Can you make a guard with some eggcrate?

i put him in a small floating breeder tank for now until i figure out what to do with him. i once had a large goby in it for 4 months one time and was fine. you think it should be ok for a while? also, how fast do mystery wrasses grow? maybe it he grows fast in the next couple months, ill be able to keep him.

your wrasse may jump into the display....I'd just pick up a rubbermaid container and place one or the other in there temp....with a powerhead and a heater. Your wrasse won't grow that fast...I'd expect an inch or so ever 7-12 months....

i have a cover ontop of the breeder tank. he cant jump. so do you think he would be ok in there for a little while?

IMHO...no...I'm sorry I wish I could say yes but I honestly don't think so. Is the breeder tank drilled for flow?

Then maybe until you can provide better living arrangements. But It may become stressed over time. Especially since there are larger greener pastures a 1/8" away. Can you divide the tank (If you don't want to give one or the other up)?

just throw it in the sump or fuge for now and relax, he will be fine for some time till you know how to resolve the problem, i had a flame angel that started picking at my sps and caught him and into the fugr it went for a couple of weeks till i got a tank for it, i put a regular hang on back filter, a heater, and a little pump for circulation, his been in there for about 2 months happy as can be with a little trigger and a chromi

Yea, sump. Even better, the rubbermaid container or a 20 gallon tank. that way you have a QT tank afterwards. Not to nag but you should have one already =P
