I havent seen many people using spraybars lately, i was thinking about using this type of return on my tank. maybe a 40" spraybar across the back and one 3/4" locline in the corner. Note: i also am running a closed loop. Is there any reason i havent seen spraybars lately?

i dont know why you havent seen alot of them lately, maybe your not looking hard enough??? :D
what pump will you be using for your return? 40" of spray bar and a 3/4" lock line seems like it would need alot of flow through it?

I just installed one as a part of my closed loop, I have it about an inch off the bottom near the back. I should mention that I have a shallow sand bed and want it to keep the crud from settling. I also have all my live rock elevated off the tank bottom. It works great. I also have a spray bar in my refugium to keep my macro tumbling.

i will be using a gen-x pcx-40 pushing around 1000gph i may just go with the spray bar if you think that will be enough, i just dont want to restrict the pump.

I have a spray bar running on a closed loop driven by an Iwaki 40 RLXT, and run my return through a manifold that discharges at the 4 corners of the tank. The tank is BB and I am very happy with the setup.

Hmmm... let's see. I just spent about 8 hours this week tearing out the spraybar return system in 3 different tanks and then re-plumbing the returns because they all clogged with virtually no flow going through them. So, IME/IMO, I would suggest avoiding them. I really don't see the benefit vs. just putting in a simple elbow for your return line.
