Do any of you add anthing extra to your tanks? For example iron or magnesium...etc...

Besides water changes I never added anything to my tank, I figured since I was not keeping coral I wouldn't need to. But talking to a local fish guy, he recomended adding iron and magnesium......

For most FOWLR tanks, I think water changes are all they need in terms of replenishing elements and things. If you have problems with pH, or want more coraline growth, additives could help. I don't add anything myself. I just rely on water changes.

The only reason to add Iron is for algae growth, so unless your running a refugium, there is no point in adding it to a fish only tank. Magnesium is really only worth keeping tabs on if you have coral or coraline algae that are sucking it up, in which case you would need to also keep tabs and add calcium as well.

Vodka both for me and my tank to control nitrate and phosphate. Really helps keep things in line. I have never seen a fish adversely affected, nor heard of anyone who has claimed it to have an adverse affect on fish. Can in some circumstances negatively affect certain coral which is one nice thing we do not have to wory about.

For FO or FOWLR, I never saw any benefit to using additives. I did when I started in the hobby, and the LFS were able to convince me to do it. Oh, the days before the the reefing BBs.
