I have a 70 gallon (36x18x24) and I need some advise on powerheads for my mixed reef. I was thinking about a vortexh mp40 but unsure if it would be worth the money. I have a mag 7 for my return pump. Any suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running a mag 9.5 for my return, two maxijet 1200's on a wave timer and a Seio M620 for additional flow.

I have a 50g breeder(36x18x19) and I just got a VorTech MP20 a week ago. I LOVE it! I used to run Koralia's for about 1.5 tears prior to this beast. Great flow, really quiet aswell, at least on my setup. Here is a video:

If I were you, and you had the money, the MP40w would be a great pump for your tank, that is all you would need, IMO. You can find some good deals for them on Ebay, for around $350 brand new with full warranties....
I might be upgrading my driver to the MP40wfor a bit more flow in the future.

Like stated above, if you have the money then definitely look into either a vortech or tunze. If you go the vortech mp20 route you can always upgrade it to the mp40 when needed. If not looking to spend a lot of cash modded maxijets are nice.

I have a 70 gallon witha mp40. Works great it is on about 60-75% of max power. Anymore than that and I get sandstorm.

So do you think if I went with the mp20 that it would be enough flow for my sps as opposed to using a koralia 3 or 4? Also does anyone know about how long the lifespan is of a vortech?
