Will fish jump w/eurobracing??

I have a euro braced tank measuring 36x24x18. 1 inch eurobracing all around no center brace. Will wrasses and anthias still jump out of my tank? No canopy. thanks

Unfortunately a 1 inch eurobrace will not have much effect. You'll probably need to use fine mesh over the tank or some other type of lid if you don't want to risk losing your wrasses or anthias.

Do a search here on RC and you will find a few threads about DIYing a mesh top that will protect your fish without blocking much light.

i had an eggcrate on mine, and my clown still managed to get out :(

Some fish will manage to knock them selves out on the eurobracing if they get too desperate while jumping out

my tank is almost identical in size to yours reefer and at first i didnt have any eurobracing and believe it or not adding it seems to help some with fish jumping. my tank is also open top.

i think many times fish race up along the glass when jumping and the one inch rim of acrylic is enough to save those jumps. i've had nine anthias in the tank for about 6 months now without any jumping.... they do sometimes jump up in the frenzy of eating and hit the lights though. my worst jumpers used to be six line wrasses (had three jump in a year). that was before i added the acrylic rim. i removed the six line i had after adding the rim after about a month as i wanted a leopard wrasse and the six line wasn't being very friendly to it!

btw....i didnt add the acrylic rim to reduce fish jumping, it was added to keep my vortechs from spilling water over the edge of the tank, possibly reducing fish jumps is side benefit.

That will have no effect on keeping them in.

Eggcrate has no efffect on keeping fish in. Except very large ones who might knock the eggcrate off.
