i have a 90 gal with a 30 sump atm. i need a new skimmer. i was looking at the swc 250s. do you guys think its a good match or should i think about the 250s2? i will be upgrading soon i hope. which would be a 150 tank with a 50 ish sump.

i have a mix of sps and lps atm

I think that the MSX250 will be plenty of skimmer for your current system, and the upgrade. My recent experiences with the 2S is giving it a much higher tank rating IMO...it is almost shutting down a MSX250 and skimming our 1000g SPS prop system.
You could get the 2S and it will work great...you'll end up needing to feed the fish and corals a lot to keep the skimmer well fed, and keep the corals from going too pale.

so you dont think its worth getting the either of the cones (1s or 2s), just going with the cylinder 250?

I'm running some tests on the 1S right now...I should have a better idea of how well it works in a week.

My thought at the moment is that the 1S should be able to skim as well as an MSX250...but time will tell.

If you've got the time, hold off a week or so and I can have a better answer for you regarding the 250 vs 1S.

Get the 2S and take off one of the pumps (you can plug the hole it leaves).

When you upgrade to a bigger system or if you decide to go really high bioload on your 120 you can just put the second pump back on.

I believe in a reasonable degree of future proofing when you buy reef equipment.

thats the reason my stand is 3 times bigger than my tank:eek1:

i am just thinking if the 250 is gonna do a great job it might be worth saving the extra $$
