Reef Bass

One of the neat aspects of reef tanks is the biodiversity. This morning I was doing an early morning flashlight inspection and I had one of those "what's going on here?" moments. I came across this small bivalve (which I'm calling a clam for ease of use if nothing else) on top of the zoas in the pic. I may have not seen it correctly, early morning, dark tank, not enough coffee, etc., but it looked like the clam was hinge side up, with the opening facing down on the top of the zoas. My flashlight must have disturbed it, because by the time I got back with my camera the clam had moved rather snail like down the backside of the zoas like it was hiding from the light.
With the lights off and the clam now not in view, I simply reached in and pulled the clam and zoas out of the tank and into a plastic dish.
What is this bivalve / clam thing? Was it merely passing over my zoas or did it have some evil intent? Did I mistake accidental motion by current for intentional movement?
On a separate note, any idea what the little snail is? I've had them forever. They come out at night, cluster on the glass and don't seem to bother anything that I've noticed.
