looks like some type of marine plant..probably a hitchhiker in a frag or something...do you have any tangs?

Is it like a vine? If so, it is a pain in the *ss. It roots in the live rock and is difficult to control.

halimeda calcifying macro algae. nothing to worry about. it wont take over, needs to be rooted and doesn't take well to alot of pruning. probably the most desirable kind of macro to have in the display.

does the purple nip at it at all? obviously not much with that kind of growth. pull it out by hand

most herbivores wont touch that and it turns solid calcium white when the lights go off.

Halimeda. It's a calcerous based Macro Algae that is not much of a threat. It's fairly non aggressive, looks nice BUT soaks up Calcium at a pretty fast rate. I have it in all of my tanks, but dose Calcium anyway, so don't worry about it. I do need to thin it out on ocassion.

is there any other way of getting rid of it besides just picking them out?

Hello nolen,

no, but I found out when picking some parts of too large colonies to reduce them that the entire died.
