Well, I have been dosing calcium via liquid additive into my 155 gal tank because my salifert test kit was reading 350ppm. I added enough over two days to raise it to 425ppm according to the directions. I retested the calcium after two days... still 350. I buy a new test kit (salifert) and retest...now 650. I check calcium with two other test kits - red sea and API , both 650ppm. I guess my calcium wasnt 350 to begin with. Stupid, faulty test kit!
So basically I have way too much calcium in the tank right now. My ALK/dKh is 10.4. I'm trying to dose just alk right now to maintain it and not dose calcium. I also did a 10% water change. I assume the [Ca++ ] will fall on its own as I maintain Alk.
I guess my question is..... is 650ppm dangerous or detrimental to coral growth in any way? I know it can clog venturis and pumps but I'm more worried about my corals. Mostly zoos, leathers, few acros/montis (small to med size).
Advice, thoughts or concerns?

I would be doing alot bigger water changes, if this calcifies in your pumps or other equipment that would not be good.

That is pretty high but I'm sure it could be worse. You are going to have to do a lot of water changes to bring it down. What type of salt are you using.
Also, I don't know if you know about this but you could check this out from now on when you are dosing. It is pretty accurate.

I had the same issue with a Salifert Calcium test kit.

Instant Ocean... which I believe is the lowest [ca++]. Its down to 600ppm. Not sure when I should turn my calcium reactor back on?..... maybe around 500ish? Gonna do a few more water changes and keep maintaining Alk to 11.

I'm using Oceanic. 580 ppm using my salifert calcium test kit on freshly mixed salt water. I haven't dosed anything to my tank for almost a year, and still reading in the high 500's. I would say this is a test kit issue.

I'd let the calcium drop to 450 ppm or so. The tank should be fine. People have report higher calcium levels with no problems for the animals.
