I just got a small snowflake eel yesterday for my new aquarium and during the night it moved into my CPR overflow. I have the top of the back covered with a beach towel (to muffle the sound) so it can't get out that way, but I am assuming it is bad for it to be in there. It is in the siphon section currently. So am I correct in that I should find a way to get it out? And is there an easy way anyone knows of? In theory it may try swimming around tonight again. Once it is out, how do I keep it from going back in?

Well it just moved to the main compartment of the overflow

So now in theory I could just reach in an try to pick it up, but I would also fear dropping it since it would be hard for me to get to it behind the tank. But my biggest concern would be how to keep it out without blocking the flow to the overflow. Gutter guard maybe?

would it hurt the eel if I just put a net under the pvc in the refugium and removed the strainer in the overflow? Then I could just let him go with the water down and into the net. I would of course have to be quick to keep him in the net.

I did that to a clown that got stuck in my external overflow with no problems FWIW
