I spoke with the owner of the lfs about ordering an anemone and he stated he could get me a red rose bta for around $30 and the true red rose bta was around $150. what is the difference between these?

The difference is the size of the sucker. I would get one online froma good place see the sponsors page, or atleast find a better lfs.

There are rbta's that have a green tint to the base that flooded the market a few years back, they are the usually the "cheaper" ones. Then there is a the true rbta that do not have any green tint to them. The true reds are much nicer IMO, but you should be able to find clones of either one for no more then $50. Check your local reef club.

I basically have had to give them away here. you used to be able to get 50 to 65 for one, but now my club is so flooded with clones that its hard to sell them anymore.

Additionally, there are roses out there that have tan bases. True roses are the same red or pink color from the tip of the tentacles to the base of the foot..

There are rose BTA, then there are ROSE BTA (I would not use true for false) but some are much nicer than other. If I am going to buy one for 150 buck then I need to see him first and make sure that he is beautiful and healthy.

i guess no roses for me! i just havent been confident in the lfs's around here..... i still have zero fish in my tank b/c i cannot find what i am looking for and when i do it's very skinny, not eating, and covered in parasites....

if anyone knows of a good online retailed for anemones, let me know... i have alreayd gone through the retailers that sponsor RC but havent found roses. i know these things r everywhere... i remember paying $400 for our first one about 6 years ago... and i know people sell them for $30... but since moving here i cant ever get what i want for what i want to spend....

The different tint and colorization of the RBTA's is usually very distinct. True, being totally void of any other color than red. usually more mature. Worth the price diffference.

Maturity have nothing to do with color. Genetic and health is. A colorful BTA that is healthy will cost more. When I spend over 100 dollars for BTA, I want to know for sure that the anemone is healthy and that the color is what I think is beautiful. True rose or false rose

I love Liveaquaria.com. very good customer service and refund if the thing dies. and they are flooded with RBTA in the summer. Go to the Divers Den section of the web site its "wysiwyg"( what you see is what you get)

Put up a WTB in your local forum. Maybe you can get a deal. I know the pet store here would buy mine, but they're just not splitting enough. I want my whole tank covered first. :)

Great pics guys! My single RBTA that I brought home from my store is now 4 rather large anemones. It is a great addition to the tank, but I would be wary of paying more than $70.

The huge one in my pic earlier on this thread split into three about a month ago. I know this isn't a selling forum but i'm just replying to the last post.. one of them is about 7"-8" when fully open I would be willing to sell you. Def wouldn't find one like this at a store. PM me if you're interested, I can give you a picture or two.

Yep, mine have a few white specs in the tentacles and white markings around the base of the tentacles. There are the normal white lines around the mouth too. Here is a picture of two clones of the other one that are right next to each other.

I think OrionN nailed it on the head when he said that if it's healthy, and it looks like it's worth $150 to you, then go for it.

I feel left out, so I'll post a pic of my "non-true" RBTA. It's one of the "cheap" ones with a green tint to the base of the tentacles, but I like it :D And that's all that counts.

Nice RBTA's.

And a big +1 for liveaquaria.com (and drsfostersmith.com, for that matter). Great selection, WYSIWYG, and incredible customer service. My LFS is an hour away, so shipping costs are essentially neutralized by not having to put $40 in fuel in my vehicle to drive to the not-so-LFS.

IMO, sometimes "red" BTA's look brown, and I tend to favor "plain" green BTA's. I love how they flouresce under the actinics.

lobsterotomy, I really like how the base of the tentacles and mouth area of your RBTA seems to glow and backlight the bubble tentacle tips.

I purchased one from LiveAquaria.com, (divers den) very nice, great color and healthy. Would not hesitate to order again. Photos of actual anemones for sale. Their stock changes daily. I am in love with the roses w/white speckles. I'd buy one but I have way too many right now. A little pricey but excellent livestock and unsurpassed customer service, can't say enough about how accomidating they are, I rate them superb along with Pacific East Aquaculture, some mighty fine folks at both of these stores.
